(Who): As self-proclaimed drunks by association, this quartet hails out of the tough streets of Shompton, (Schaumburg) Illinois. Dysfunctional Mariachi was established in Bellwood in early 2002 by brothers Kenny (drums) and Danny (guitar) Galindo; set out to accomplish two things: create some of the best Hard Rock/Metal in Chicago & find a singer and bass player that can play like animals but also pick up the next batch of beer. Shopping for a bass player they set their sites on some jam sessions they knew about not too far from their practice site. Without hesitation they quickly scooped up former-Marine Heavey. As fortune would have it after dealing with singers that couldn't hold their own, Kenny looked to his thankless day job and found conservative slacker Stone chomping at the bit to audition for the band. After hearing one session they couldn't deny that his voice would be the essential part of the band. Therefore, he shortly became Dysfunctional Mariachi's lead vocalist in the summer of 2004.
(What do they sound like): A special blend of Hard Rock & Metal. Dysfunctional Mariachi brings an honest sound to the masses. With nothing but a pair of balls and their instruments; their unique sound ranges from the musical influences of bands such as: The Deftones, STP, Dream Theater, and Phish. Says Stone: "Collaboration is sometimes a nightmare, but somehow we pull the shit off every time. You have Danny boy starting off with some wicked sounding Deftones riff, then he makes a complete 180 on you and starts into a straight up hardcore metal break, then there's Kenny going all over the god damn place, and you don't know where to turn to. Then finally to top it off, you have Heavey playing something completely different but yet so complementing. I'm like Fuck! Do that shit again, it's f**kin' awesome!" As confused as Stone might sound, he doesn't seem to have too hard of a time giving each song its own personality. With songs like "Beauty and Fire" & "Failure", it's not too hard to see that this band has the sound and determination to make a mark not only in Chicago's metal scene, but in much more of a global aspect as well.
(Why): Because of the lack of a real Hard Rock/Metal station in the third largest market in the U.S., metal has fallen to the way-side in their hometown and subsequently has become an ignored genre. However, that will soon change with this type of style, form, honesty and musical clarity. Dysfunctional Mariachi will prove to future audiences that they cannot be ignored any longer; they will be HEARD and will give you one hell of a live show.
