Lu La La!!!

LuLa Cafe has been reviewed by umpteen people over time, so we have decided to save one of the best for their eighth year in Buzz S&E!

Our night began with a warm greeting from a friendly staff that escorted us to a romantic table fore two. I must say it was a little noisy but given that I am half deaf (or some call it selective hearing) it may have been just me. Lula’s milieu was filled with tremendous energy and a funky cult-like following, the one that screams “Oh my, you’re a LuLa virgin!” We were, but not for long!

We began our dining extravaganza with nothing other than two blackberry Bellini’s, which were incredible. Now that our palate was wet, we moved on to a cheese plate which consisted of a variety of cheeses, and a mad river roll coupled with candied walnuts. Other appetizers included the likes of a peanut satay noodle dish, pan-seared scallops, and shitake quesadillas. Just before our appetizers, we were offered fingerling potatoes, which were compliments of the chef, and given my Jewish heritage, the mentioned dish, even if it were terrible, was music to my ears!

LuLa’s next offering was a salmon salad, which we shared. It was divine and tasted as if it were farmed raised in our backyard. All the meanwhile our server who had been there since the inception of Lula’s was in stride with our every need and want.

And on to the pinnacle of our evening - dinner! Nikki ordered the whitefish which consisted of a sybaritic mix of morel mushrooms, dandelion greens, walnuts, and applewood bacon. My entrée was a bit less lavish yet every bit as polished and precise as Nikki’s. My dish was a spring chicken sided with potatoes, spinach and a copious amount of our favorite… GARLIC!

Well, actually we must digress - we have made our very first full-fledged lie - dinner was not the pinnacle of our evening, it was dessert. We ordered up a divine tart consisting of strawberries, rhubarb and ice cream, which was nestled in a cornmeal crust. Dee-lish!

But before we close, as you know, Nikki and I must provide our washroom review as well (because every date must have a good can). That being said, LuLa’s gets only a single flush out of 5. The can was poorly equipped and scantily decorated. I felt as if I was peeing in a trough at Wrigley. But then again, we came here to eat, not to pee!

Have a favorite restaurant you would like to be reviewed? Please send your suggestions to Corey and Nikki at info@buzznews.net!!! Your restaurant could be in our next issue!!!
